Bird Mandala in Watercolor: a 3-part Series

This series is every Friday from 10/19 – 10/30
You will not be able to sign up for the following classes in this series separately.

The Sonoran Desert is full of wonderful plants and animals. In this class, we will create beautiful bird paintings with a circular design (mandala) background inspired by desert plants in the Botanical Gardens. We’ll go step-by-step through the process of creating a beautiful mandala and bird image with watercolor and pen.

Please provide your own art materials. Recommended Art Supplies List:

  • Pentel Japan Aquash Water-Brush set of 3 (or similar)
  • Strathmore 400 Series Wire Bound Watercolor Pad, 140 lb. Cold Press, 9 X 12 inches (or similar)
  • Staedtler Design Journey 14610C Box of 24 Assorted Watercolour Pencils (or similar)
  • Caran d’Ache Palette Aquarelle or Small white Plastic Cutting Board (like Farberware Reversible Plastic Cutting Board, 8×10 Inch, White)
  • Sakura Pigma Micron 05 fineliner black pen, 0.45mm, pack of 2 (or similar)
  • Pencil sharpener

Laura Milkins


Laura Milkins is an interdisciplinary artist whose work explores vulnerability, intimacy, and cultural norms, using a variety of media. Through storytelling, her work examines the connection between technology, the environment, and the body in Western culture. Laura has been teaching art in Tucson since 2006 and enjoys sharing her passion and knowledge in creating meaningful artwork. 

Refund & Cancellation Policy

No refund will be issued less than 15 days prior to any Community Class. A $10 cancellation fee will be applied to all refunds. No refunds will be issued for special events. We reserve the right to cancel Community Classes due to insufficient registration, garden closure, or inclement weather, in which case, participants will receive a full refund. People with disabilities should make requests for accommodation as early as possible to allow time to make appropriate arrangements.
