Weavings from the Ramses Wissa Wassef Art Centre
The artists of Egypt’s Ramses Wissa Wassef Art Center return to the Gardens with a new collection of contemporary, one-of-a-kind wool and cotton tapestries. Crafted specially for this exhibition, each piece is woven directly on the loom with no preliminary design and depicts the flora and fauna of Egyptian landscapes in rich color palettes.
The Ramses Wissa Wassef Art Center was established in 1951 by architect Ramses Wissa Wassef as an experiment in nurturing the innate creativity found in all of us. Based in the village of Harrania, Egypt, the Center’s exceptional work can be found in museums, galleries and private collections around the world.
