The Children’s Discovery Garden
The Children’s Discovery Garden is a tucked-away spot in the Gardens where you’ll find activity stations to engage the smallest to the biggest kids in hands-on fun. When you visit, you’ll find a brand new entrance in the northeast corner near the Pavilion, under an archway commissioned by local artist, Joe Benedict.
Once inside, stop by the Little Hummers Puppet Theater stage to put on your own nature puppet shows. Take a close look at the base of the stage – those stumps came from our beloved elder Willow tree near the native crop garden. Pick up a shovel and brush to uncover fossil replicas in the Fossil Dig Sandbox. Place your hand inside the scale model of a T-Rex footprint to get a feel for how much bigger than us they really were! Finally, make a harmonious sound by dropping pebbles inside the Harmony Stone.
This new musical sculpture was also designed and built by Joe Benedict and features beautiful flagstone from Northern Arizona. Stay tuned – debuting in October in conjunction with the new Frida’s Garden exhibit is Frida’s Kitchen! Brightly colored, just like Frida’s, kiddos will be able to pretend they are in her Mexico City home’s culinary space and “cook” a meal just like she did.
