Discover the art of Japanese traditional basket weaving with an artist from New Mexico. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn step-by-step how to create a beautiful leaf scoop basket using traditional weaving techniques. Your finished basket will measure approximately 15″ × 9″. No previous weaving experience is required. The artist will guide you throughout the process in a welcoming and supportive environment, making this workshop suitable for both beginners and those interested in exploring a new craft.
By the end of the session, you will have learned new skills and created a beautiful handmade basket to take home and enjoy.
All materials are included.
What to bring: An old hand towel to use as a work surface. Please wear comfortable working clothes or bring an apron.
Ages 12+. Children must be accompanied by an adult; accompanying adults may observe free of charge.

Alice Fujita
Alice Fujita is a basket maker passionate about creating functional baskets, especially containers for fresh flowers. Growing up, she watched her mother make toys from bamboo, which sparked her appreciation for working with natural materials. She discovered basketry herself through an onion basket-making class and immediately fell in love with the craft. Today, Alice is particularly interested in using locally sourced materials to create baskets inspired by the traditional Japanese hanakago style.
Refund & Cancellation Policy
No refund will be issued less than 15 days prior to any Community Class. A $10 cancellation fee will be applied to all refunds. No refunds will be issued for special events. We reserve the right to cancel Community Classes due to insufficient registration, garden closure, or inclement weather, in which case, participants will receive a full refund. People with disabilities should make requests for accommodation as early as possible to allow time to make appropriate arrangements.
