Lichens, extraordinary partnerships between very different organisms, are common, but poorly understood and underappreciated by most people. However, lichens are important in soil formation, as a food source for many animals, and have been used by humans for a wide range of purposes. This presentation introduces the fascinating, often beautiful, world of lichens.
