Colors of the Desert

The Sonoran Desert palette is rich in greens and browns.  The Drawing Studio’s Saraiya Kanning will help you use watercolor to achieve a diversity of hues for painting desert soil and plants.  Playful sketchbook exercises will pull us into the cactus and succulent garden for an adventure in drawing from observation.

Saraiya Kanning

Saraiya Kanning is a visual artist and creative writer with a passion for plants, animals, and ecology. She works in a variety of mediums, including ink, watercolor, and silk painting. Some of her favorite projects include watercolor journaling in Rocky Mountain National Park and Canyon de Chelly, illustrating Sonoran Desert flora and fauna through silk painting, and silk painting mountain landscapes on scarves.
